Pocketknives are Going Mainstream Thanks to Hipsters

If you haven’t already heard, hipsters are carrying pocketknives. A recent article in the NY Times, It’s a Jungle Out There? Carry a Pocketknife, stated that pocketknives are now “being embraced by guys whose principal workplace implement is a MacBook”.

The pocketknife has become a common accessory for many urban men. While some knife enthusiasts may scoff at the idea of a knife as a fashion statement, the truth is, who among us doesn’t love a good-looking pocketknife? We love the way our knives look, the way they feel, and the way they make us feel. Why should it be any different for these guys?

The newfound interest in carrying pocketknives among this particular group of men, however, truly is as much about function as it is about fashion. They may not be using their knives out in the woods or in the shop, but they are using them to carry out everyday tasks like opening packages, cutting food, and tackling various urban chores.  They’re using their knives responsibly and they’re enjoying using them! This can only help bring attention to knife rights, and awareness to the fact that knives are everyday tools that have their own special place carved out in society (pun intended).
