Hot Dogs & Halloumi Cheese on the Grill | Lunch at Lansky

At Lansky Sharpeners we love using our grill almost as much as we love sharp knives. That’s why each year when summer appears, we break out the barbeque and take advantage of every perfect day. Sometimes we’ll grill chicken, sometimes burgers or fish, but today we went for an all-American classic, the hot dog…with a twist.

Hot Dogs & Halloumi Cheese on the Grill

If you never thought it was possible to put cheese on a grill, you’ve probably never heard of Halloumi cheese. Halloumi cheese originated in Cyprus (an island near Greece) and is traditionally made from goat’s milk and sheep’s milk. It has a high melting point, which means it can be fried or grilled. We chose Atalanta’s Halloumi cheese, which is made from pasteurized sheep’s milk.

Our first order of business was to slice the halloumi. Lansky CEO, Chris Fire, whipped out his handy Responder X9 and got to work. You don’t have to use an X9 to slice your cheese, of course, that’s just how we roll here at Lansky.

Once the cheese was sliced, Chris brushed a little bit of olive oil on each piece, both for flavor and better grilling.

Next he placed the cheese slices (oiled side down) on the grill and tossed on a dog.

He brushed the top side with a little more olive oil and let it cook for about 5 minutes.

Chris then flipped the cheese over. (Notice the amazing grill marks already etched into the cheese).

He cooked the hot dog and cheese for approximately 5 minutes more and then threw on a bun, lightly toasting it.

The bun toasted just in time for the hot dog and cheese to be grilled to perfection.

Finally, lunch was served!
